The Loop Project Approved by Planning Commission

SANTA BARBARA, CA: In a unanimous 6-0 decision, the Santa Barbara Planning Commission approved “the Loop” mixed-use project in Isla Vista, California. It is located adjacent to the University of California, Santa Barbara and will bring affordable housing opportunities in a unique green building with a roof deck, car-sharing program, and solar powered facilities. Strong community support was evident, as fifteen members of the public spoke in favor of the project. As part of its commitment to improve the environment, “the Loop” will remediate ecological impacts on the site (from a past gasoline station), and employ permeable paving to minimize storm pollutant runoff. Its innovative design will fit the neighborhood “beach” culture and will create a vibrant business hub for residents and visitors.
